Planetary Exploration

My first time exploring the creation of planetary environments and scenes, all completely done in Blender. Started with an image texture approach, then moved onto 100% procedural planets and in the Earth-like render, more focus on the atmosphere and star compositing,.

First attempt focussed on the general planet/star layout and is based on NASA's Mercury texture for the planet.

Then moved onto a similar style planet, but constraining/challenging myself to completely node-based, procedural planet which is built on a foundation of noise, wave and voronoi textures.

Finally, I constructed another 100% node-based, procedural planet. This time, more complex, as I sought to create a "goldilocks-zone" style planet with large areas of water.

More care and attention here on the atmosphere and Sun too.

Procedural node setup for the Earth-like planet, most notably here, I used a Musgrave texture for the continents, and then split that to three shaders, the "ground", "coast" and the "water".
